You may know Jennifer Garner as the beautiful girl with a wide smile that lights up the screen. But the award-winning actress has also brightened up many a lives with her charitable work. In fact next month, she will be presented an award for her work to improve the lives of underprivileged kids.
In her home state of West Virginia, she grew up seeing kids living in abject poverty. Perhaps, this is why she started supporting Save the Children. Garner serves as an advocate for their early education programs. As a further mark of affinity towards the poor in her homestead, she has appeared in a documentary about the kids in the state’s villages who suffer from poverty.
The actress has also been a part of the Godiva Celebrity Charity Dinner Auction. She hosted a dinner for the benefit of The Women’s Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre. Organizations that she supports include Alzheimer’s Association, Rape Foundation, Make Poverty History, Children Mending Hearts and International Medical Corps. She has also endorsed causes that most people don’t feel like discussing. The need for more diapers in some impoverished areas of United States, for example.
The media has often celebrated her as a very atypical celebrity whose charitable works often overshadow the glamorous ones. As a mother of three children, she wants to instill the sense of helping others in them. “I don’t think empathy is something you can drill in someone’s head. I try to be the best version of myself and to have faith that they’re watching me as carefully when I do something right as they do when I roll through a stop sign (while driving),” she said in an interview.
