When one sees a musician playing at a public place, one assumes that he is down on luck and money. However, Will Boyajian who plays guitar on subway platforms in New York is not seeking money, fame or anything else for himself. In fact, he has started a project called #hopefulcauses to help homeless people in the metropolis.
A hand written sign that is kept beside his guitar case makes his intentions very clear to everybody around. It says, “Will Boyajian who plays guitar on subway platforms in New York is not seeking money, fame or anything else for himself.”
You read that right. He gives away all the money that he earns by busking through the day. Talking to ABC7NY about the novel project, Will said, “You see the homeless every day in New York City, you see it’s a place where the poor and the rich are very close to each other and that juxtaposition really sticks out.”
Through his performances, Will can collect as high as $400 in a day. He ensures that he goes home with an empty case everyday. In case some money is left over, he buys single-ride Metrocards to give away to the needy.
The aim of the project was to change the way New Yorkers look at giving. And, Will sure has achieved that if social media posts are any indication. Through the week, people kept posting pictures of him performing accompanied by many inspiring and inspired captions. Most of them also expressed happiness about crossing paths with this beautiful soul.
Like Will Boyajian, we can all make a difference. You can do it, too. And, if you need help, Crowdera is there to help. Come over to raise free funds for anyone in distress. Or to support a cause, or organization, you believe in.
