This Friday, the New Orleans Pelicans will play San Antonio Spurs in their homeground. The point guard of the home team Jrue Holiday will be expected to show why he’s earned the nickname Super Jrue. However, regardless of his performance on field, he has made a super gesture that shows he deserves the name.
Holiday has announced that he will be donating a $1000 for every point, or assist he gets during the game. These donation will help victims of a tornado that hit New Orleans last month. The natural calamity resulted in severe devastation in many localities, with several people becoming homeless.
The press statement issued by Holiday said, “It’s a shame that in the matter of minutes these storms produced such violent tornadoes that literally upended the lives of so many residents of New Orleans. Knowing that I’m sitting at home and a couple neighborhoods over there is devastation. It was hard to see, especially in a city that has embraced me and supported me. To give back and support them was an easy decision.”
Considering how well he played in Wednesday’s game against Detroit Pistons. He had accumulated 22 points and five assists on the day. Let’s hope for a similarly great performance from him on Friday so that he can donate a big enough amount.
A simple gesture like that made by Jrue Holiday can go a long way in community building. Is there something in your local community that you would like to change for the better? If lack of funding is the only thing holding the project back, try crowdfunding. With Crowdera, you can even do this for free!
